The Empty Cross

We see symbols of the cross in and on every church. A cross is often worn as jewelry by both devout believers and rock stars. The cross is undisputedly a symbol of Christianity.

Many "conservative" or "evangelical" churches explain proudly that their cross is empty and Christ is risen. Unfortunately, many of these churches are hardly fulfilling their purpose in the world. If we are not preaching of God's judgment of sin and the message of the cross, our cross is really empty and meaningless. "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?" (Acts 1:11)

Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord… Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. (Genesis 6:8-9). Enoch also walked with God. Noah and Enoch were given the task of preaching to the heathen of the coming judgment of sin, calling on them to repent. It took many years to build the ark and Noah was 600 years old when the flood came! Enoch was even older! In II Peter 2:5, Noah is called a “preacher of righteousness.” Jude 14-15 says, Enoch prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

The word, "ungodly" appears four times in this text. Only Noah and his family were saved, but God made certain that the people had ample opportunity to repent.
